The baseball and softball fields at Terry Park Sports Complex Fort Myers are home to some great history. In 1914, the American Association Louisville Colonels held spring training in Fort Myers. They played exhibition games against the St. Louis Browns and Philadelphia Athletics. Of course, those games didn’t have the same quality of playing field as the one at Terry Park today, but they did have some famous alumni. Learn more.

In the 1920s, the Fort Myers Terry family donated 25 acres of cow pasture to Lee County for a baseball field. In 1925, they built a small wooden grandstand that seats 600 people. Originally, the ballpark hosted the Philadelphia Athletics’ spring training games. It later hosted the Cleveland Indians until 1941, and the minor league Fort Myers Palms began playing there in 1926. The grandstand was destroyed in a fire in 1943, but rebuilt five years later in 1955.

If you’re a history buff, you’ll love the IMAG History & Science Center. Here you can see fossils, touch tanks, and demonstrations from the area’s past. The Florida Repertory Theatre is another great place to spend time in Fort Myers. With 21 years of experience, this theater has drawn 87,000 visitors a year. Regardless of your interests, there is plenty to keep you busy.

If you’re a history buff, you’ll want to check out IMAG, Fort Myers’ Museum of History & Science Center. The IMAG offers fun and educational exhibits for all ages. Just north of downtown Fort Myers, the Edison & Ford Winter Estates are a beautiful example of a Victorian mansion. Thomas Edison, who invented the electric light, stayed close to Ford during the late 1800s.

The park’s beach is another attraction. Originally a gravel quarry, the park has now been converted to one of Fort Myers’ top attractions. It spans more than two hundred acres, and it’s very accessible, with short paths and easy trails. You can also fish in the lake, and you can even rent a boat for a day’s fishing. It’s a great way to spend a day in Fort Myers and get a bit of exercise. Check this out.

If you’re a history buff, you can visit the Southwest Florida & Lee County Fair at Terry Park. This annual event has been around since 1924 and has created many memories for millions of people. You might have met your future spouse at a fair, or even caught a glimpse of Tammy Wynette at the booth of her famous band.
